Tracking Web Stats on the Road on iPhone

Posted in Tips & Tricks, iPhone on May 17th, 2009 by Kent

image As a geek who has a few websites constantly work on, one of the daily job I do is to check the web stats to see how things are going with my websites. I usually do that on my laptop but it would be nice if I can do the same from my iPhone. It would be very useful and saves my time especially while I am on the road.

The good thing is there are number of 3rd party apps available on Apple store for that purpose. However, the bad thing is only few of them are free. And unfortunately, you won’t be able to find one that suits you all the needs.

So, what do I want to track over on iPhone while I am on the road? Here are 4 things I would like to be able to track:

  • Google Analytics stats
  • Google Adsense earnings (mostly quite disappoint though :) )
  • FeedBurner subscribers
  • Twitter followers

So here are what I use:

EGO

imageIt costs you $1.99 but totally worth it. I recently just purchased it and only feel I should have bought it sooner. Why?

Ego gives you one central—and lovely—location to check web statistics that matter to you. With support for Feedburner, Google Analytics, Mint, Squarespace and Twitter, you can quickly view the number of visits to your website (including daily, hourly and monthly numbers), feed subscription totals and changes, and how many people are following you on Twitter.

More nicely, it uses widget module, which means you can add as many as widget you want, and each widget can be one type of track associated to your account. For example, you can track 2 feeds, 3 analytics, and 5 twitter account all in one window on one App. Isn’t it nice?

This app is probably the best app for tracking Google Analytics. Well, the data is very limited but hey, it’s in real time, which is even better the web version, in which you will have to manually change the date range to find the current states.

And this is probably the only app on iPhone that tracks your FeedBurner subscribers. The downside is you will have to sacrifice a bit of privacy of enabling Awareness API under Publicize to allow external to access your data.

This app covers 3/4 part of my needs, which leaves only Google Adsense that I should cover. Two apps currently on my iPhone for that task.

iAdsense

I got it free back then but now it charges $1.99 for it. It’s a very simply app that only does one thing, check the Google Adsense earnings in near real time currency conversion. You can check your earnings as the day goes by, in one tap (after initially logging into your AdSense account). However, it won’t be that excited if you are like me, disappointed most of the time.

SenseApp

Another paid app that costs you $3.99. However, I got it for $0.99 when it’s on sale. Another little app that just does one thing. It does offer more data than iSense, for example day-to-day comparison chart. However, I still like iSense a little more because of its simplicity.

That’s it. That’s how I track my things while I am on the road. If you have any other tips and tricks about how you did it, or if you have any other good apps that do the same thing, feel free to share in the comments.

Enjoy, and happy tracking.

nice summary, will try that EGO. I’ve keep using the AnalyticsApp not bad but consider the money they charge and only show the Google Analytics is a bid expansive.

iAdSense is an horrible app can’t believe they are charging $ for this kind app
