I am not talking about the software tools here but the physical power tools we usually use to repair things at our home. I don't own a single house that requires them to repair a lot of things but already have felt the needs to invest a set of their own. Here are the must-have power tools recommended from today's 24hours newspaper.
Drill/Driver
As the name suggests, does double duty as a drill and as a screwdriver. So you can use it to assemble furniture you bring back from a retailer in a box, hang the occasional door, replace a lock on a door, hang pictures, etc.
Screwdriver
If a drill/driver seems like a bit too much tool for your needs, then a battery-powered screwdriver might be just what you need.
Circular Saw
Whether you are putting up a fence in the backyard, fixing a deck, undercutting a door, or building a bookcase for the family room, a circular saw will get the job done faster and with less muscle power than any handsaw.
Jigsaw
While circular saws do a great job of long cuts, jigsaws shine in places no circular saw dare go. When laying down hardwood floors, for instance, you may find it necessary to make precise cuts in order to get the flooring material to fit perfectly around door frames or other irregularities. Or you may find it necessary to cut a hole for a new sink and faucet into new countertop material when renovating a kitchen or bathroom. Only a jigsaw has the compact blade, and the compact range of movement to make these precise cuts.
Reciprocating Saw
It can cut through almost anything, which makes them ideal for demolition work. So if you are taking apart an entire room, or simply cutting off the drain pipe underneath your sink, a reciprocating saw will cut through almost anything you let it feed on. Also, due to the unique shape of this power tool, it can easily get into tight corners and cramped quarters, places a jigsaw or a circular saw simply can't negotiate.
Lights
When working in and around the house you'll often find yourself in areas where it's darker than you'd think. An extra light, especially one with a flexible neck, is a really good idea.
Laser Level
Nonetheless to say, it's a must-have tool that runs much better than the old fashioned liquid filled levels.
And if you are planning on tackling larger projects in and around the house, you will need more than just a few basic power tools to get the job done right.
Hammerdrill
These incredible tools like just a regular drill/driver, but with one distinct difference, the hammerdrill setting that not only spins the concrete drill bit, but also vibrates it up and down thousands of times per minutes.
Miter saw
This powerhouse is a must for serious renovators.
Nailer
You have to know what you will be using the nailer for before making an investment. A good bet for all around nailing would be a Brad nailer that shoots 18-gauge nails. It's agreat nailer to use when tacking wood in place until adhesive sets on your projects.
Compressor
A lot of choices are on the market. Which is the best depends on how many power tools you will be hooking up to the compressor at once, and whether or not you mind hte compressor cycling on every few minutes to refill the tanks. You will also have to choose between gas and electric models.
