Windows Vista Annoyances

These Vista annoyances apparently has bothered Michael Otey quite badly that he put it public in the latest Windows IT Pro magazine.  I agree most of them.

10. Application imcompatibility. - This is quite obviously people complain the most.  And yes, most of the cool apps you run on XP have to upgrade to the version that compatible with Vista, usually it costs money.

9. Windows Areo hardware requirements. - This annoys me the most recently because I had dual-monitor over two computers setup recently at work.  Because its WDDM video driver is not compatible with most other XDDMs, I ended up having XP box with the primary and Vista as second, which is so inconvenience on daily basis.  I am tolerating this annoyance now and am patiently waiting for a work around from MaxiVista, the software I used to set up the dual-monitor.  Enjoying the wider space though.

8. Too much UAC - Agree, and this is the first thing I turn off after I had Vista installed on my laptop.

7. Lost wallpapers and themes

6. Losing Windows Explorer settings - I am a two-column Windows Explorer person and Vista version of Windows Explorer seems to be ok for me.

5. Explorer drag-and-drop

4. Anti-virus incompatibility - True but ok for me as I am using the latest free AVG instead of Symantec.

3. VMware virtualization software - This seems ok to me as I use VMware server on other machine to create the image and only use VMware Player on Vista to run the image.  I also have Virtual PC loaded on Vista too.  Both seem to be working properly so far.

2. Dual-boot difficulties - This was the issue to Michael because of the no. 3 issue.  Since I don't have that issue, dual-boot method is still staying in my archived toolbox.

1. All-in-Wonder incompatibility

By the way, I stole the angry baby from Viral Tarpara's Vista Desktop Search Annoyance.

I have to confess that I did say I am extremely happy with Vista in tools on my computer but be honest, the more I use Vista the more I miss XP, especially the performance.  I am sure that if I run Vista on my current computer it would be at least 50% faster.

So far, XP wins but XP will be out of the market end of June this year.  Should we do something like the petition campaign which is happening on InfoWorld right now to save Windows XP for longer life?  I believe so and I signed.  Here is the quote from the article which I like the most.

In many respects, Vista is like the Windows Millennium Edition that was meant to replace Windows 98 in 2000 but caused more trouble than it was worth. At that time, Windows 2000 was promising but didn't support a lot of hardware, so users were stuck between two bad choices. Without admitting Millennium's failure, Microsoft quietly put Windows 98 back on the market until the fixed version of Windows 2000 (SP1) was available. Microsoft needs to do something like that again today.
